The Lfe Aquatic is a good movie...

Have you seen this movie? It has the most whitty and loveable characters. I love the whimsical sea creatures from Wes Anderson's movie, The Life Aquatic. I was thinking about the hummingbird fish, sugar crabs, rhinestone tuna and especially the jaguar shark. I wish I could see them... oh, if they existed that is.

I want a crayon ponyfish.

sassy rattles and such

Such a classy little cherry tree rattle...

I discovered these clever little baby toys the other day while browsing for baby stuff. I like the whole little set of "earth brights" by sassy. The colors and design are new and they are made of wood, why is that so appealing to me?

D.I.Y. for Lindsey

A friend of mine just moved into a rental space that has dark wood grain on the kitchen cabinents. I tried to explain an idea similair to this to her.. but it wasn't coming across very clearly. I stumbled upon this picture (from domino) and decided to post them for her. It would be a cheap, simple and great for a renter... just use white contact paper to create large blossoms. Kinda like a reverse of this dresser.

coterie

clever little birth announcment...

this little blog is a gem. I barely met Heather while she was living in Laie, but a lot of my friends knew her well. I loved her pregnancy announcement and she is always posting good ideas.

photo booth

I have always loved photo booths. There used to be an awesome one at our local mall, and I always wanted one at my wedding. To bad I didn't know about photoworks interactive. They rent photo booths across the US. You can also track down a vintage booth in your area here, at photobooth.net.

Your surfing where?

As I have come to know the surfing world I have been intrigued by the names of surf spots. It's part of the insiders lingo at each new coastal spot. Some are self explanitory and others are well.. a legendary story! I found this article through the honolulu advrastiser explaining some of the names of breaks on Oahu.

Do you know how these beaches got their names?

Personally, my favorite story is about the break called gums in between Pipeline and Ehukai. Apparently an old man surfed his longboard there in the 70's and "During a particularly bad wipeout, the man's longboard knocked out his dentures — and he never replaced them.

"So he would surf there without any teeth, just his gums," recalled Randy Rarick, veteran surfer and contest promoter. "And that's how it got named."

Cassandra Barney is a good artist...

I had the opportunity to take a composition class from Cassandra Barney at BYU. She is great and now I love to read her blog and be inspired. Her post here about women stuck in holes is so great. Sometimes I'm ... well... "stuck in a hole" and the goal really is to "recognise when we are in a hole and then figure out how to get out" as she says.

D.I.Y.

Photo fridge magnets done right. I found this idea at junebug wedding blog, where you can find a tutorial for the project. I think its great and once again seems to be do-able. The tutorial takes you to an online printing source that I have never used but looks pretty good, called Moo

D.I.Y.

This idea is so do-able and would be in-expensive. I like the old timey feel of it... just add crepe paper and pin the tail on the donkey. (found via: party perfect, which was found via emma's design blog)

yeah for collaboration...

Amy Butler has a great line of fabric that is all over the place, especially Etsy. I was excited to see that she is collaborating with Mikasa to create a line of china called Vintage Botanica.

I secretly wish I was just getting married so I could register for it!

creative juices...

There is a tiny town called Laie and it is full of creative, great and interesting people. Jacie is one of them. She has vintage clothing sales and her last one was quite an event. It included a fashion show, sale of clothing and open skate. Here are some great pics taken by another talented person in our community, Mark Lee. (See his blog portfolio here)

by order of the management...

So clever... take all of those mundane phrases you have heard before and turn them into this lovely poster. Love the demanding nature of "Sweet Dreams", so cute for a little kids room! These and many more found on the ETSY shop of John W. Golden (and at a good price).

calling all "edge" lovers...

I happen to love the chewy crispy corners of a homemade brownie. This pan is genius for those of us out there that fight for the perfect edge piece!
